MEASURING A SIMILAR GARMENT THAT YOU ALREADY HAVE IS ALSO HELPFUL FOR DETERMINING FIT. BE SURE TO ALWAYS MEASURE YOUR ITEMS LAYING FLAT, UN-STRETCHED.
GARMENTS THAT DO NOT HAVE MUCH STRETCH (SILK OR LINEN FOR EXAMPLE) SHOULD BE APPROXIMATELY 1-2" LARGER THAN YOUR ACTUAL MEASUREMENT TO ALLOW FOR ROOM TO MOVE.
ALL ITEMS ON THIS SITE ARE MEASURED LAYING FLAT, UN-STRETCHED.
MEASURING TIPS:
USE A SOFT TAPE MEASURE.
THE MEASURING TAPE SHOULD BE SNUG AGAINST YOUR BODY BUT NOT TIGHT.
GENERAL MEASURING TERMS & GUIDE:
SHOULDER: MEASURE FROM SHOULDER POINT TO SHOULDER POINT, ACROSS THE FRONT.
UNDERARM: MEASURE FROM WIDEST POINT OF ARMPIT UNDER THE ARM TO SAME POINT ON OTHER ARMPIT, ACROSS THE FRONT. THIS IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE "PIT TO PIT" MEASUREMENT.
BUST: MEASURE AROUND THE FULLEST PART OF THE BUST IN FRONT AND ACROSS THE BACK.
UNDERBUST: MEASURE AROUND YOUR RIBCAGE, DIRECTLY UNDER YOUR BUST.
WAIST: MEASURE AROUND YOUR NATURAL WAISTLINE. THIS IS THE NARROWEST PART OF YOUR WAIST. USUALLY ABOVE THE BELLY BUTTON.
RISE: THIS MEASUREMENT HELPS TO DETERMINE HOW "HIGH RISE" OR "LOW RISE" TROUSERS WILL FIT. MEASURE FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE CROTCH SEAM (LOWEST POINT DIRECTLY BETWEEN THE LEGS) TO THE TOP OF THE FRONT WAISTBAND.
INSEAM: THIS MEASUREMENT HELPS TO DETERMINE HOW LONG TROUSERS WILL BE ON YOU. ON THE INSIDE OF THE LEG, MEASURE FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE RISE DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PANT.
